Students studying in courtroomThe Associate of Applied Science in Legal & Paralegal Studies is a 2 year, 60 semester credit hour, undergraduate level program that can lead to a great legal career. Graduates of the program go on to enter the workforce in private law firms, private industry and government agencies. In addition to preparing students for careers in private law firms, students are well equipped for many alternative legal careers.

The Associate of Applied Science in Legal & Paralegal Studies provides an excellent first step for those planning to obtain a bachelor degree. The two-year Associate degree provides for a seamless “2+2” transition into the Bachelor of Science in Legal & Paralegal Studies.

With the Associate of Applied Science degree in Legal & Paralegal Studies (AAS), your legal coursework will include Introduction to Law, Law Practice Management, Real Estate, Tort Law, Legal Research & Writing, Estate & Probate Administration, Civil Procedure, Family Law, and the Legal Assisting Internship.

If you decide to attend full-time, you can finish the program in four semesters; however, many of our students do in fact attend classes on a part-time basis.

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Legal & Paralegal Studies is fully approved by the American Bar Association. It is offered for paralegal education and provides course work and practical experiences designed to develop the knowledge and communication skills necessary for contribution to the legal profession. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public except as permitted by law. Students must take at least nine (9) semester credits of Legal Specialty courses through synchronous classroom instruction (i.e. through traditional classroom instruction or “meeting” online through supported software such as Blackboard Collaborate or Zoom allows the instructor and students to hold virtual meetings with audio and visuals).
